My mentor, Prof. Srikumar Rao, creating social impact through personal development.

Uncommon Insight into Changing the World with Dr. Srikumar Rao

Join me as I speak with my longtime mentor, Dr. Srikumar Rao — TED speaker, author, consultant, and creator of the Creativity & Personal Mastery course. I took his course at the London Business School back in 2005 – and never imagined it would still have an impact on my life 12 years later.  Perhaps I’d have imagined that I would have achieved some level of mastery by now, but one thing I’ve learned is that life continues to evolve and change… for everyone. The course provided me a framework for much of my personal development today — building on tools such as examining your mental chatter and evaluating how you perceive the world and profoundly changing this to something more effective.

But in this podcast, I reached out to Dr. Rao to have a discussion on how we can create a positive social change in the world – both internally and externally, and we got into some really deep stuff.  (And some great parables!)

Gandhi’s quote “Be the change that you wish to see in the world” resonates deeply with my understanding of the world.  But I’ve always wondered if the world changes because you see it differently, or if it changes when the world is inspired by your transformation.

You certainly can’t force change, and if your hopes are pinned on a certain outcome, you’re bound to be disappointed, as the universe is constantly changing by forces much more complex than your singular influence. Prof. Rao explained how to keep your intent pure and focused on something greater than yourself — and this will help bring about a change for the better, even if it isn’t the one that you expect.

On advice to those who want to make a difference, he said:

“There are so many areas in the world where so much has gone awry. Pick any one area, and educate yourself. Become an expert, to the point when you understand how you can be personally involved.  And then take action.”

Pour in your energy and effort and resources, do something personally — just make sure it’s more than just donating money.

This podcast is jam-packed with wonderful parables, insight, and tools to transform the world, so make sure to tune in!

For more details on how to find out about the course, visit – he has two courses scheduled for next spring, as well as various talks around the world.  I can’t recommend this course highly enough — so if this podcast strikes a chord, definitely look into his program, it lives up to its reputation for creating profound change!

A point that I would promote, with great respect and profound thanks to Dr. Rao for all he does:
“There are so many areas in the world where so much has gone awry. Pick any one area, and educate yourself. Become an expert, to the point when you understand how you can be personally involved. And then take action.”

That point, when you understand how you can be personally involved, is much closer than you might think. Go on and take a dip in whatever pool you want to swim in!

Thanks for a great show with amazing guests,
